Paddling & Snorkelling in WA

Western Australia has a fantastic network of picturesque rivers, estuaries and inlets, and some of the most pristine coastline on the planet. Whether you’re exploring by paddle craft or heading below the surface, understanding the unique conditions of Western Australia's aquatic playground is key to a memorable and safe trip.

What to take:

PADDLE TRAILS (Group F)

  • Plenty of water and food for the duration of trip.
  • Sun protection: hat, sunglasses and sunscreen (SPF 30+)
  • Clothes to suit the activity and potential weather conditions
  • Lifejacket or floatation device
  • EPIRB, PLB or Flares
  • Leg or paddle leash if paddling in the ocean
  • A paddling helmet is recommended for paddling in whitewater and surf
  • Always refer to the comprehensive safety guidelines found on the individual trail listings
  • Always have a first aid kit (vehicle nearby or on you for longer trips) and check that items are clean, properly sealed, have not exceeded expiry dates and that used items have been replaced
     

SNORKELLING (Group G)

  • Always snorkel with a buddy, never alone
  • Correctly fitting mask, snorkel and fins (fins optional)
  • Sunscreen (SPF 30+) and consider a rash vest
  • In cooler waters, consider wearing a wetsuit, gloves and boots
  • Divers flag (if more than 50 meters out and within boating areas)
  • If you are not a confident swimmer, do not go snorkelling without a suitable floatation device
  • Always have a first aid kit (vehicle/ vessel nearby) and check that items are clean, properly sealed, have not exceeded expiry dates and that used items have been replaced
