The Sidings Rail Trail is a Class 2 walking trail and Easy mountain bike trail. The trail is a wide, smooth gravel path with a gentle uphill slope, making it an ideal option for families and beginner riders. As the trail forms part of the Munda Biddi Trail, you'll have the added bonus of experiencing a bite-sized section of the 1000 kilometre iconic trail that stretches from Mundaring to Albany.
With starting points in Jarrahwood and Nannup (Foreshore Park), the Sidings Rail Trail can be completed in either direction. Alternatively, the trail can be joined with the Old Timberline Trail south of Cambray Siding to form the 48-kilometre Timberline Loop.
There are several vehicle access points along the trail where you can choose to walk or ride a shorter section if desired. Some of these access points are via unsealed road and may be suited to 4WD only.
Overnight options (if completing the Timberline Loop).
Camping is permitted in three locations along the Old Timberline Trail:
- Workmans Pool Campground
- Barrabup Campground
- Sleeper Hewers Campsite - includes a hut with bunk beds for 8 people, a rain water tank, toilets and a picnic table. No car access.
All three sites are non-bookable, operating on a first come, first served basis, and have access to St Johns Brook and charming swimming holes. Camping fees only apply for Workmans Pool and Barrabup Campgrounds.

Here is everything you need to know before visiting this trail.

- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Insect repellent
- Plenty of drinking water (as a minimum carry and drink 1 litre of water per hour of walking, per person).
- PLB or satellite phone
- Clothing to suit the activity, environment and weather conditions.
- Map/ Compass, do not rely on your phone in remote locations.
- Snacks/ Meals to keep your energy levels up on longer walks
- Extra food and water in case of unexpected delays
- Rubbish bag to remove all your rubbish
- Reference material such as wildflower wildlife guides.
- Whistle (for emergencies, six short blasts per minute)
- Small trowel for toilet emergencies, and a few sheets of toilet paper in a small waterproof bag.
- Personal first aid kit (check that items are clean, properly sealed, have not exceeded expiry dates and that used items have been replaced).
- Torch/ Headlamp
- Binoculars and camera (optional)
Additional Useful Items
If deciding to opt for the mountain biking option, then Group C items should be taken. These include:
- A good quality helmet (legally necessary)
- Spare inner tubes or puncture repair kit, pump, tool kit
- Mountain bike shoes and clipless pedals are recommended

Trail Start
Corner of Old Vasse Hwy and Jarrahwood Mill Rd, Jarrahwood, 240km (2.5 hours) south of Perth
Bush Walk
Class 2
Easy trail with modified or hardened surface, and gentle hills or occasional steps. Clear directional signage. No bushwalking experience required. May be suitable for assisted wheelchair users (if ramps are provided at steps).

Mountain Bike
Easy
Recommended for beginner riders with basic mountain bike skills. Typically flowing, open trails on firm terrain with gentle gradients. Surface may be uneven, loose or muddy at times. Riders may encounter small rollable obstacles and technical trail features.

An easy trail with gentle hills, though please consider the trail distance before embarking.
Hazards & Warnings
As this is a shared use trail, walkers should be aware of cyclists.
Both walkers and cyclists should be careful of road crossings and vehicles.
Safety
Walkers need to plan ahead and consider food, drinking water and equipment requirements. Supplies can be purchased in Nannup.
In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) if there is mobile phone coverage.
Before you go, install the free Emergency+ app on your mobile phone. It can be used in the event of any emergency to call for assistance. If there is no mobile phone coverage you will not be able to call Emergency Services but the app will provide you with GPS location details.
Do not rely on your mobile phone in the event of getting lost or injured, as coverage is unreliable on the trail.
Consider carrying a personal locator beacon (PLB) or other emergency communication.
Facilities
Please note all facilities are located at the Nannup Foreshore Park (not Jarrahwood).
Camping is only permitted if completing the Timberline Loop as designated campgrounds are situated on the Old Timberline Trail. These campgrounds have a composting toilet and picnic tables. Only Sleeper Hewers Hut has a sheltered hut and water tank.
Tank water is not guaranteed and must be treated before use. Use tank water sparingly and keep an emergency supply of drinking water as backup. Tank water should be treated by boiling, mechanical filtration or chemical treatment.
