A mixture of bitumen path and wooden boardwalk, the trail clings to the side of the hill and sweeps around with spectacular views of the bays. Commencing at the Ellen Cove trailhead, head up the boardwalk, keeping an eye out for the southern right or rare blue whales during whale season; a far cry from the days of whaling.

There are lookouts, memorials to past leaders and explorers, and interpretive signage along the uphills and decents. Near the port there are historic buildings including the lighthouse and bunkers where Australian troops once looked out over the spectacular views of King George Sound and Princess Royal Harbour. Once at the Albany Port negotiate some of the roads to head into town, or return the way you came.

If I could rate 4.5 stars I would. The walk is along a footpath and well marked. There is also parking at the Port End or vice versa. The viewpoints from along the top are stunning and the locals use this as a running track as well. Had I know earlier I would have parked at one end and jogged the route. Also perfect to get back into at sunset for amazing views!

A beautiful way to view King George Sound.
Shared path, some small hills. Overall a pleasant walk with the family.

Dual-use pathway offering one of the best ways to see the beautiful coastline of the historic town of Albany. The trail hugs the rugged Mt Adelaide hillside giving fantastic views of Middleton Beach, King George Sound and the outer islands and provides a great opportunity to explore memorials and historic buildings, imagining the Australian troops departing to fight in Gallipoli.
