Australia's South West region starts at about 200 kilometres south of the city of Perth. More than 23,000km make up the south west corner of Western Australia, with 1000 of those kilometres consisting of awe-inspiring coastline just waiting to be explored.

Getting to Mountain Biking Experiences in Australia's South West

From Perth, Australia's South West region is an easy and enjoyable drive from Perth city. If you don’t want to drive to the South West, you can also reach the region by public rail or coach transport or fly directly from the eastern states. Those feeling a litte more adventurous can tackle the world renowned Munda Biddi Track, starting in Mundaring in the Perth hills and journeying 1070km by bike through pristine native bushland, forests and coastline to Albany. There are plenty of tour companies offering day trips and extended trips to the region, you can even cruise there!

Jetstar operates flights directly from the eastern states to Busselton-Margaret River airport, located in the heart in the region. You can also fly from Perth to Albany at the southern most corner via REX (Regional Express). 

CAR RENTAL: The South West of WA is a great place to access by car and in comparison to other parts of Australia is a reasonably compact region to explore. From Perth, the south west region starts about 200km south of the city. Alternatively if you fly direct to Busselton-Margaret River airport you can rent a car from there, and get to Busselton (10 minute drive), Dunsborough (30 minute drive) or Margaret River (45 minute drive).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The Transperth trainline will take you as far as Mandurah in the south. From here TransWA offers comfortable coach services directly to all major areas in the south west region

Yep, this is possible! The world-renowned Munda Biddi Trail stretches 1070 kilometres from Mundaring in the Perth Hills through to Albany in the south-east corner of the region. The Munda Biddi is an off-road cycling trail like no other, and every day will be different. Follow the trail markers through native bushland, towering forests and rugged coastlines. The Munda Biddi can be tackled in sections or in one big journey over 3 to 4 weeks. There are purpose-built huts along the way for camping, and both major and minor regional towns along the way to re-supply. Munda Biddi's Bike Packing Essential Series

The Bikepacking Essentials Series (TBES), run by the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation, is aimed at novice-to-intermediate MTB and gravel riders who want to have a bikepacking adventure involving an overnight trip. An End-to-end on the Munda Biddi Trail is a bucket list item, and they have assembled a fantastic series of practical clinics to get you prepared.
