Becoming a Trail Manager

Become a Registered Trail Manager on Trails WA

Local Governments, land managers, community trail groups and Visitor Centres are invited to register as official Trail Managers on the Trails WA platform.
Registration gives your organisation the tools and support needed to keep your trails visible, accurate and up to date for Western Australians and visitors exploring your region.

Trails WA helps ensure trail information is consistent, accessible and aligned with state-wide standards, while giving Trail Managers a simple system to upload and update their own content.

Why Register?

For Visitors

Being on Trails WA ensures your trails are presented with the quality and detail trail users expect, including:

  • A central, trusted source of comprehensive trail information
  • Top Trail identification to help visitors make the most of their time
  • Downloadable maps and offline access
  • Trail Friendly Business listings displayed alongside your trails
  • Ability to save favourites, upload photos, and share trails
  • Quick links to Visitor Centres, national parks and safety advice

For Trail Managers, LGAs & Visitor Centres

Registration provides:

  • Increased visibility across a high-traffic, statewide trail platform
  • Support in promoting your region as a trail tourism destination
  • Cross-promotion with RTOs and Visitor Centres
  • Accurate, consistent trail information ready for your own website via API
  • Access to new CMS upgrades, classifications and ALA biodiversity tools
  • A streamlined way to manage updates, images, and trail notifications

Which Trails Can Be Uploaded?

Trails don’t need to be Top Trails, but they must be suitable for visitor promotion and meet these criteria:

  • Officially sanctioned
  • Managed by an organisation responsible for ongoing maintenance
  • Defined start and finish point, ideally with a trailhead
  • Clear directional signage, or street-based mapping for urban trails
  • An accurate route file (KML/GPX recommended)
  • A safe, enjoyable and meaningful visitor experience

Only well-managed trails should be uploaded to ensure quality and reliability.

How Trail Management Works

  1. Nominate an organisation
This may be an LGA, Visitor Centre, DBCA region or recognised community group.
Trails are assigned to organisations to ensure continuity even when staff change.
  2. Nominate contributors
Multiple staff or volunteers can be granted access to upload or edit trail content.
  3. Upload your content
Create new trail listings or request updates to existing ones.
  4. Promote your trails
Published trails can be shared across your website, social media and marketing channels.
