About The Domes Trail, Purnululu NP
The Domes Trail is a moderate 700m loop trail which features some great examples of the geological erosive forces that helped create the unique ‘beehive’ outcrops. The classic layers are made up of clay-like bands that support a type of cyanobacteria that creates that distinctive grey colour. The red bands are caused by oxidation of iron in the incredibly fragile sandstone.
There is also an optional 350m side trail which takes you to a small ampitheatre which during wet season becomes a pool of water with a rushing waterfall.Â
Please note: Purnululu National Park is open seasonally between April/May to December, weather permitting and is only accessible by high clearance 4WD only. Due to the remote nature of the park, make sure to read through the visitor safety of the park before visiting.Â
