The moderately challenging, Class 3 Temple Gorge Trail is located near the campground in the Kennedy Range NP. This 2km return trail follows a dry creek bed to a sandstone rockface known as the Temple.

If camping at the spectacular Temple Gorge campground, there's no need to hop in the car and drive to the trailhead. The trail starts right here at the campground. The walk to the fork in the trail is easy enough and here you'll get an inspiring view of the rock face that looks like a temple.

However, if you are up to a bigger challenge, you can branch right and take the Class 4 route. It's longer, boulder strewn and needs to be undertaken with care as you scramble up and down the slopes. At the end you are rewarded with a seasonal rock pool under the gorge walls. It's a good place to stop and soak in nature.   

This is one of six walk trials in the park – Temple Gorge, Honeycomb Gorge, Drapers Gorge, the Escarpment Trail (leading to the top of the range), the Escarpment Base Trail, and Sunrise View.

Hazards & Warnings

The risks from exposure and dehydration are significant in this area. Carry 3 to 4 litres of drinking water per person

Facilities

Temple Gorge campground is a bush campsite. Camping fees apply. Toilets are provided but there is no water available. To assist visitors, Parks and Wildlife Campground Hosts are usually based at the campground from May to September.
There is a ‘communal’ fireplace at the Temple Gorge campground. To protect wildlife habitat and the ecology of the national park, please collect wood before getting to the park. Collecting wood in the park is not permitted and personal campfires are strongly discouraged.
Accommodation is available at Gascoyne Junction (Junction Pub and Tourist Park) and at the Mount Augustus Tourist Park

May to November. Walking is not recommended from December to March when temperatures can exceed 40 degrees Celsius

Follow the blue arrows for a harder trail. This trail has large rocks, pebbles and shelves to traverse. With a medium pool. The yellow trail is shorter with no water this year.
Reasonable fitness is required. Slippery sand covered rocks, high rock shelves, steps, with humid weather kept us on rehydration alert.
Allow three hours for both trails. Resting at trail end is needed.
