Located on the west coast, Perth is privileged to have fantastic beaches, sunsets over the Indian ocean and a cycle way that ventures for many kilometres along the coast. Eleven interpretive signs along this section provide information on the native flora, fauna and history of the area.
Marmion Marine Park is a nice area for snorkelling in summer. Just north is Hillarys Boat Harbour with its cafes, shops, family friendly swimming beach and boats. From here, the trail north to Burns Beach weaves through a natural coastline of scrub, alternating with fabulous coastal views.
Fishing areas, swimming beaches, lookouts, toilets, pubs, kiosks and stores, can all be seen along this trail or alternatively via a nice drive all the way up the coast. Trail markers along the route provide distances to the next section. Please note that at many times of the year the prevailing wind makes riding south more difficult than riding north (for example, if you are riding the trail from Burns Beach to Marmion).
Whilst the trail can be started at either end, and accessed from any point, the official start is located in the suburb of Marmion, approximately 20 minutes drive west of the city.
Bike hire is available in Scarborough, which is six kilometres south of Marmion.
