Learn moreAbout Pelsaert Island Trail, Houtman Abrolhos Islands NP
Pelsaert Island is one of the most significant seabird breeding sites in Australia. An abundance of guano (bird droppings) accumulated over millennia and was mined for its properties as a fertiliser during the 1800s and as late as 1946. Remnants of this industry remain present on the island today.
