Learn moreAbout Nyoongar & Don Shepherd Nature Trail, Rockingham
Situated on the old Karnup townsite, settled through the 1920's Soldiers and Group Settlement Scheme, the Nyoongar and Don Shephard Nature Trail is a 1.6km walk that offers a meaningful bushland experience in the City of Rockingham.
The 600m Nyoongar bush walk features crushed limestone paths and beautifully crafted interpretive signage created by Safety Bay Senior Highschool students, sharing insights into the Nyoongar seasons and culture.
Across the road, it joins the the 1km Don Shepherd Nature Trail and meanders through native vegetation, where banksias bloom and orchids appear in spring. The trail offers a peaceful nature walk through banksia, tuart and marri woodlands.
The combined loop is dog-friendly and suited to a wide range of users, including those with cognitive or low-vision needs. Wheelchair accessibility is limited to the Nyoongar bush walk. With picnic shelters, BBQs, and ample parking at the trailhead, this short but enriching trail celebrates local community, culture, and the beauty of the coastal plain.
