Learn moreThe Numbat Trail is the most challenging trail at Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary with several steep ascents and descents and numerous stairs to navigate. It's hard work, but the views are worth it if you are up for the challenge. Allow 3-5 hours of hiking and extra time if you like to sit and take in the scenery or stop to take photos.
The Numbat Trail follows the same path as the Quenda Trail with an optional spur loop. If the trail proves too challenging at this point, you can skip the extra loop and head back to the car park along the Quenda Trail.
There are numerous lookouts and seating provided along the trail as you pass through powderbark and wandoo woodlands, past stunning granite outcrops, amazing flowering shrubs and delicate wildflowers inluding several varieties of orchids; donkeys, white spiders pink fairies, and snail orchids.
From the numerous lookouts you can see along the Avon River Valley, the East -West Railway Line and Paruna Gorge.
The scenery changes along the spur loop. Extensive grazing has left an open parkland area of trees with little understorey. From the lookout at the western end of the spur loop you can see down into the Avon River Rapids.
Bird life is prolific along the trail and you are likely to see tiny blue wrens in the undergrowth and magnificent eagles circling above.

Trails are free and bring so many benefits to our community by providing opportunities to have fun, get fit, socialise, explore and challenge yourself. But they also have to be managed and maintained which only is made possible through terrific sponsors, donations and/or volunteering.
