Learn moreAbout Munday Brook Walk, Canning Mills
Munday Brook Walk is a 9.9 kilometre circuit walk through the native bush of Korung National Park in Canning Mills, 35 minutes (40 kilometres) south-east of Perth. The trail is a pleasant walk through mixed forest, with glimpses of farmland and local orchards in the final stretch.
There is ample parking at the trail starting point, which is the north side of Karragullen Oval, although parking may be more challenging during period of high use (for example, on the weekends with sporting fixtures).
The trail is fairly flat and comfortable, with a few slightly steeper sections towards the end of the loop. The walk takes in mixed forest which, like most of the area, was extensively logged in the 19th century.
Care should be taken at the beginning and end of the walk to locate the markers to ensure you are on the right track. The beginning of the trail is signposted with a Shire of Kalamunda walk trail sign with a red marker in the corner. The trail markers for this walk are dark pink, although many of the trail markers appear lighter in colour (almost white) in areas that appear to have been subject to a controlled burn-off.
There are several smaller trails that cross over the main trail, it is important to refer to the trail notes and to look out for trail markers to ensure you are on the right track. Use the distances between waypoints on the map to check your progress and verify your position. Trail notes and map can be downloaded at the City of Kalamunda website.
Trail Notes
Start point: The parking area at the northern end of the oval. The start point is a City of Kalamunda walk trail sign with a red marker in the corner.
1. A T-junction, turn right. Ignore several tracks to the left.
2. Turn left at the T-junction.
3. Go straight through the crossroad.
4. Turn left here. It is a T-junction, turn down the shaft of the T. Look carefully for the marker on a tree.
5. At this Y-junction, take the left fork as indicated by the trail marker
6. When you reach the formed road, Carinyah Road, turn left.
7. After a short distance, take the left fork onto a good track which was probably an old railway line. Ignore several tracks to the left and right.
8. Cross the creek at a collapsed bridge. This is about the half-way point of the walk.
9. Turn left off the main track at an indistinct cross road. This turning point is not easy to see, it is in a natural clearing and there is a fallen tree to the right of the track.*The section of the track between waypoint 9 and waypoint 10 is overgrown, and several fallen trees have to be negotiated.
10. Reach the rear of a farm and turn left at the T-junction
11. Canning Road is about 30 metres to your left.
12. This is point 1. Turn right here and walk to the car park to complete the walk.
