The Greenbushes township was named after the bright green bushes that contrast with the grey eucalyptus trees. Greenbushes abounds in natural and pioneering heritage, with many features of interest scattered throughout the forest surrounds of the township.

As shown on the downloadable map image, starting from the Heritage Park, opposite the Greenbushes Discovery Centre, there are two parts to this trail:

  1. Take the route shown in blue (1.1km return) to the Mine lookout overlooking the Talison Minerals Cornwall Pit. The lookout gives a birds-eye-view of the Greenbushes lithium operations.
  2. Take the route shown in red (2.1km return) to explore the history of tin mining in Greenbushes. The trail takes you through the forest with opportunity to view old mine shafts used from the 1900's to the 1940's. Miners used a variety of winch mechanisms and buckets to haul ore from as deep as 10 metres below the surface cap rock. Walkers will gain insights into old mining tunnels, hand-dug shafts and trenches. The trail is marked by a triangular badge featuring a miner's safety hard hat and crossed pick and shovel.

The original route for this trail is partially closed due to the expansion of Greenbushes Talison Mine and will remain closed until further notice. For your safety DO NOT enter any closed trail section.

The walk is currently closed. You can start the walk, but there is a fence half way through blocking the trail. The main mine viewing area is also closed and can't be accessed from town.
Go to the Shamrock instead.
