Lesmurdie Falls located in the Mundy Regional Park in the hills east of Perth, is one of the more spectacular waterfalls on the Darling Range escarpment. There are a number of walk trails you can explore from here depending on the time you have, your level of fitness and the degree of difficulty you choose.

This walk is particularly recommended in winter and spring when the rains swell Lesmurdie Brook which tumbles over the Darling Range Escarpment.

A list of walk trails below are available from here of varying degrees of difficulty, Including:

The Falls Trail. 640m return, Class 2, allow 45 min.

The Shoulder Trail. 1.5km return, Class 3, allow 1hr.

Lesmurdie Brook Loop. 1.5km loop, Class 2, allow 1 hr.

The Foot of the Falls Trail. 2km return, Class 3, allow 1hr.

The Valley Loop Trail. 3km return, Class 3, allow 2hrs.

Walking down the hill, the trail follows the brook until it reaches a bridge at the top of the falls. A lookout allows you to view the falls and, on a clear day, the flat land of the coastal plain sweeps the eye out over Perth city to Rottnest Island on the western horizon.

If you're feeling energetic, follow the trail down to the picnic area at the base of the hills. From here a short trail leads to the base of the falls. This is more like a waterfall in New Zealand than in Perth and is quite unique to the region.  The lush vegetation grows where the bubbling brook hits the base of the waterfall.

The climb back up the hill to return to the car park is steep but short. Enjoy morning tea or lunch in the near by Kalamunda Village.

Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections a rough surface and many steps. Walks up to 20km.

Beautiful, good for kids, can easily go off track though so pay attention or will need to climb steep areas. Can be very busy, limited parking, crowded areas.

Great falls (for Perth), and some lovely spots for a picnic if you wonder around. For the full trail download the KML file before you go and open it in an app like TopoMaps before you go so that you'll have the offline track, map and your gps location on your phone .

I liked this trail but found it quite basic. The signposting could do with some work (possible to miss in poor visibility / light or if you have poor eyesight). However its a nice short trail with relatively scenic views down on Perth CBD from a few angles. The falls themselves are great spot to stop and wet the head in summer or im sure in the winter would be great to watch the water passing over the top! I'm new to hiking in Perth, look forward to many more.

By far my favourite hike in Perth. It is rather difficult if you choose to complete the whole loop yet majority of the hike is fairly easy and family friendly.
It gets very busy on the weekend with a coffee and donut van usually parked up. There is plenty of picnic areas and even areas to go swimming in the stream.
There are 3 different look out spots, both with great views of the Perth CBD in the distance.

Beautiful place to take the family. Loved the hike with picture perfect views. The hike was well worth it. One of my favorite places in Perth.

Great walk, but if you want to do the full loop you will have to be an orienteer as there are no markers to be seen.

Fun trail with lots to see, we wanted to do one of the tracks and started off ok but then stopped being signposted a short distance in with various tracks to choose from! Some steep climbs up and down but really worth it! Some great distant views of the city and really cool to see the waterfall too! Will come back here again to try do the track we intended! Might be quite tricky with small children.

I went with my niece and nephew (6 & 8) and they loved it. The falls are quite impressive (for Perth) and there are areas along the stream that would make great spots for a picnic.

Was here this morning with the family kidz 2 to 4 and they had a ball. The waterfall was at full flight after all the rain from last night's weather was great to see.

Great little track with some good view points of the metro area, a bit of a challenge in parts for the kids (8 & 10 yrs) starting from the top car park at Falls rd, there was a sign indicating the various walks using colour coding, and for the first third of the track there were colour coded signs indicating the way, but after that your on your own! your faced with 5 or 6 forks in the track for wich you have to follow your nose and it is very easy to go the wrong way especially on the other side of the river on the way back up the hill!
We had a great walk, next time will be taking some marker paint to make it clear for others!
