Follow the water's edge to the trail leading to the lagoon. If lucky, you may see sea lion pups frolicking. You will encounter unstable coral limestone ridges, loose shell and sandy surfaces along the trail. Please respect private property and do not enter the fisherman's hut area.
Watch an informative video about Leo Islands' sea lion residents here
Leo Island has one of the largest Caspian tern colonies in Western Australia. Before mating, terns usually have paired flight displays - spiralling, flapping and zigzagging together. The island is only accessible by vessel (boat), both private and charter options are possible.

Safety
Walk safely, tread lightly
·     Wear a hat, loose long-sleeved shirt, sturdy footwear and apply sunscreen.Â
·     Carry and drink 1 litre of water per person, per hour.Â
·     Stay on the marked trail and at the water's edge.
·    Know your limits and walk to your ability.
·    Mangrove systems are fragile - please view from a distance.
·     Observe wildlife including sea lions and seabirds from a distance.
·     Leave all wildlife, including live or dead shells, fossils and corals where you find it. Collecting of any kind can impact the health of the islands’ ecosystems.
·     Take all rubbish including food scraps out with you.Â
Biodiversity
Please stay on the trail, walk along the water's edge or coral ridges to avoid collapsing shearwater burrows and disturbing nesting birds. Nesting birds may abandon chicks if disturbed.
Paths that crisscross the island are created by sea lions moving from the open ocean to the shelter of the island to rest. Sea lions can be unpredictable if approached especially if pups are present. Please view from at least 10 metres away.
