This trail, although descending along the river, has some steep and rocky ascents and descents, with some climbing over logs required, however it provides wonderful views of the rapids and the tranquil pools of the Collie River. The river flows all year round due to water being constantly released form Welington Dam. In summer rthis water is used for irrigation on farmlands downstream.

There are several pools long the trail where you can have a cool off while walking, alhtough the water is very cold all year rond.

The wildlfowers are spectacular from August to November

Note that Leonard Drive, the road running alongside the river on the opposite bank, is one way from the dam to Honeymoon Pool.

Trail Access

Road 2WD. Approximately 2.5 hours drive from Perth and 45 minutes from Bunbury or 30 minutes from Collie. Enter the national park from the north on Coalfields Highway or from the south on Pile Road and follow the signs to the Kiosk.

Beautiful trail, very well maintained and signposted.
We started at Honeymoon Pool so the big uphill section was halfway through the walk, not when we were finishing. Stopped for coffee and toasties at the cafe at the dam before heading back to Honeymoon Pool. It took us about 4 hours, not including breaks.

Great hike with so many spots on the way to stop to take a breather or swim. We started at Honeymoon Pool which took us to the Wellington Dam wall mural (have to see!!) It was great having access to a toilet and Kisok for a coffee before heading back to Honeymoon Pools. It took us about 1.5hours one way (3 hours return), we took a few moments to take in the scenery along the way. We will back to this track again.

One of my favourites in the Collie region. One day I'll do it in summer and enjoy a dip at all those secluded swimming spots along the way....put this one on the list!

Beautiful walk with several choices for a river swim or picnic. For a decent workout walk Honeymoon Pool to Kiosk (for coffee!) as it's a lot uphill, or for an easier walk go the other direction and finish up at Honeymoon Pool for a cooling swim and rest under the trees.
I would find it a bit long for a return trip ... one way was just the right distance.

This would have to be my favourite trail in the Wellington National Park so far. We left one car at the Kiosk and drove the second car to Honeymoon Pool so we didn't have to walk all the way back. The trail follows the river and by starting at the Kiosk was mostly down hill. The views over the river are spectacular so make sure you take a camera. There are a few spots you could swim in summer but when we went it was too cold for swimming. However everything was covered with moss and looked amazing. It took us 2 hours walking at a steady pace.
