The Hyden Rock Walk Trail is a great short trail for people seeking an overall perspective other than just a photo oportunity in front of the wave formation itself. Besides expansive views, you get to see odd rock formations and in warm weather plenty of scurrying dragon lizards.

There are two loops. The shorter loop is 860 metres long in total from the carpark. The second loop is 1300 metres. The routes are well marked, over slopping granite which can be slippery after rain. Read the interperative signage along the way to learn about the rock formations and the fascinating plants and animals. Be aware that there is some accending and descending involved.

The Milky Way is best seen when there is little or no moonlight and you are away from bright city lights. Look for a cloudy or dusty-looking band of light stretching across the night sky. This is the combined glow of billions of stars in our own galaxy.

In Western Australia, the bright core of the Milky Way is generally best viewed from autumn through spring. In early evening, it begins rising in the south-east during autumn, appears high overhead through winter and starts setting earlier in the west during spring.

For the best view, choose a clear night close to a new moon, allow your eyes 10 to 20 minutes to adjust to the dark and keep torchlight to a minimum. A red-light torch is best for protecting your night vision.
