The Stirling Square Circuit - Guildford Mandoon Heritage Walk Trails

The trail passes through the historic Meadow Street precinct, including the Guildford Gaol (c. 1841) and the Mechanics Institute, established in 1865 to educate the town’s working men. Long central to community life, the Institute still hosts entertainment and learning activities today.

The walk then loops into the picturesque, sugar gum–lined parkland of Stirling Square.

Designed according to English colonial planning principles, St Matthew’s Church stands at the heart of Guildford within this village green and is one of Western Australia’s finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture.

Stirling Square is also a traditional Aboriginal meeting place. Interpretive panels share insights into the Aboriginal and European heritage of Guildford Mandoon.

Known as the “town of roses” in the 1930s, Guildford Mandoon continues this tradition with colourful rose displays. The park also features a children’s playground, the 10th Light Horse statue and the Kaleep Aboriginal Hearth artwork.
