Learn moreThis walk begins at the Irwin River Lookout on Church Street Dongara where you can take in the views of Port Denison and the Indian Ocean. Take the stairs down to the path on the banks of the river which lead onto boardwalks and the beach.
Cross the walk bridge over the river and walk along the boardwalk. Opposite is another spectacular lookout of the ocean and estuary. Â Here is a great spot to view the array of bird life. The boardwalk leads onto a footpath on Ocean Drive. Follow the path into the Retreat Boulevade. At the end of the path head down on the banks of the river again and follow the track.
The first building you see on the banks is Denison House used by local arts and crafts groups but originally was the site of the first flour mill in 1865 and after that was used as the local Dr Bartlett's residents and a Retreat for the Benedictine Brothers.
Follow the river track to Irwin River Park then cross the bridge onto the Dongara side and down the stairs back onto the river track.
This track will lead you back to the stairs at the Lookout where you began.
