The Chimney trail follows the banks of the Bramley Brook to the historic Keenan's Chimney site, a remnant from Margaret River's first pine sawmill. From the chimney you can return back along the brook or continue on the loop walk and enjoy uninterrupted views though the towering karri forest. The trail has a compacted natural surface with some gentle hill sections and occasional steps.
Trail Options from the Carters Road Trailhead:
- Return to and from the Chimney: 2.8km, Allow 1hr
- Loop including the Chimney: 3.4km, Allow 1.5hr
Connect to the Wharncliffe Trail or the Wadandi Track (both are shared walk/cycle) for a longer trail experience.

Trail Access
Access this trail from the Carters Road Trailhead. The nearest town is Margaret River, approximately 3 hours drive from Perth. You can drive, ride or walk to the trailhead from Margaret River. The trail is also accessible from the RAC Margaret River Nature Park.

Class 3
Moderate trail that may have short steep hills, rough surface, many steps or some rock hopping. Directional signage. Some bushwalking experience and moderate fitness required.
What To Pack
What To Pack
Group B - Hiking & Long Distance Trails (Bushwalks and/or longer trails)
- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen (SPF 30+)
- Insect repellent
- Plenty of drinking water (as a minimum carry and drink 1 litre of water per hour of walking, per person).
- PLB or satellite phone
- Clothing to suit the activity, environment and weather conditions.
- Map/ Compass, do not rely on your phone in remote locations.
- Snacks/ Meals to keep your energy levels up on longer walks
- Extra food and water in case of unexpected delays
- Rubbish bag to remove all your rubbish
- Reference material such as wildflower wildlife guides.
- Whistle (for emergencies, six short blasts per minute)
- Small trowel for toilet emergencies, and a few sheets of toilet paper in a small waterproof bag.
- Personal first aid kit (check that items are clean, properly sealed, have not exceeded expiry dates and that used items have been replaced).
- Torch/ Headlamp
- Binoculars and camera (optional)
Prohibited items
No bicycles are permitted on this trail. Pets are not permitted as this area is a National Park.
Safety
Watch for cyclists at trail intersections. The Chimney walk trail intersects trails used by mountain bikes and cyclists. One small section of the trail is shared by clyclists.
Wear appropriate footwear, weatherproof clothing and sun protection.
Facilities
The Carters Road trailhead has a shaded gravel parking area and if you ride to the trail, there are also bike racks available. The nearest public toilets are at the Margaret River Rotary Park.
