South of Kalbarri township lies a long stretch of coastal cliffs. Here the Indian Ocean butts up against the ancient Australian landmass, creating steep chasms, rocky inlets and bizarre formations, as it relentlessly carves away at the multi-coloured layers of sandstone and limestone.
A string of lookouts dots the impressive coast south of town and the easy Bigurda Trail (8km one way) follows the cliff tops between Natural Bridge and Eagle Gorge ; from July to November you may spot migrating whales. Closer to town are Pot Alley, Rainbow Valley, Mushroom Rock and Red Bluff, the last accessible via a walking trail from Kalbarri (5.5km one way).
Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections a rough surface and many steps. Walks up to 20km.

I completed this return trip trail in June. Total 16km, I walk fairly quickly so this took me 1.45 each way with a 15min break at Natural Bridge before my return back to Eagle Gorge. Absolutely stunning cliffs and views. The track starts off sandy at Eagle Gorge but quickly turns into rock and you find yourself looking down for each next step. Well sign posted with points of interest along the way. I only came across 1 couple along the track, saying this though it's not peak season and borders have only recently reopened after covid. On my return a front came in and the wind was challenging but gave relief from the sun.
Small amount of wildlife seen and wildflowers starting to blossom. For me this was a big 16km trek and felt tired after but hey I'm fairly new to walking this far in one day. I would recommend if you are in kalbarri and it's an overcast day. Get into this trail. Enjoy!
Trails are free and bring so many benefits to our community by providing opportunities to have fun, get fit, socialise, explore and challenge yourself. But they also have to be managed and maintained which only is made possible through terrific sponsors, donations and/or volunteering.
