Demboong Banan is a short, well-marked trail running through a small gap between the eroded sandstone ranges to a lookout over Kununurra. The name of this trail comes from the local Indigenous Miriwoong Gajerrong people. Demboong means Gap and Banan means Trail.

Birds are prolific throughout Mirima, especially early morning, which is also a good time to walk to beat the heat. In the valley where the trail begins you may be lucky enough to see families of colourful red-backed fairy-wrens flittering in and out of acacia trees and turkey bush. You may also see and hear rock pigeons as they make their way from the shelter of rocks and spinifex.

Despite its short nature, care should be taken as the trail is broken up with rock and uneven surfaces.

I visited Mirima National Park a few years ago when passing through Kununurra and absolutely fell in love with the unique rock formations here, sandstone rocks that are 300 million years old. Pretty spectacular place to visit with a variety of trails to choose from.
