The original trail was 56km long and started at Island Point Mandurah, but since 1989 has been progressively encroached upon by urban development. The current trail is 45.5 km long.

Section 1 - No longer in use

Section 2 - 14.5 km one way. Starts from the west side of the Harvey River Bridge on Lake Clifton Road formerly known as Old Bunbury Road and ends at the junction of Runnymede and Wellesley Roads, riding south. Allow 3 hours for this section.

Section 3 - Johnston Road to Forestry Road (riding south) 21km – allow 4 hours.

Section 4 - Forestry Road to Wellesley Road (riding south) 10km one way — allow 2 hours.

There are a few places along the trail suitable for parking a float:

Vineyard 28 - secure float parking with prior notice. The cellar door offers guided wine tasting experiences (bookings essential). 

Old Coast Road Brewery - there is a spur trail to the brewery where you can tether your horse in the shade or use the yards while you enjoy a meal and locally made brew.

Accomodation is available at Myalup Cottages where you can park the float.

Hazards & Warnings

• Flooding under “Forest Highway” bridges in winter, possible flash floods in summer storms, cutting access to Lake Clifton Road. •Download and get familiar with www.emergency.wa.gov.au •Ticks prevalent and be aware of snakes in summer.

Prohibited items

• Overnight stays with horses are prohibited • No unlicensed vehicles or motorbikes allowed on this trail

Facilities

Car / Float Parking area (Unsecure): Lake Clifton Road (200m south of Old Bunbury Bridge/ John Tognela Rest Area - off Forrest Highway). Corner of Wellesley and Runneymede Roads, Binningup. 

Water Access Points, Horses: Old Bunbury Bridge (River),  there are DBCA water holes on the trail and a river at the south end of the Harvey River Bridge.

Accommodation: Myalup Pine cottages ( Book well in advance as of the 13-10-2020 there are no horse yards)

Food and Drinks: available from Vineyard 28 & Old Coast Road Brewery (please book in advance)
