Maidens Reserve Trails, Kalgulup RP

Kalgulup Regional Park is located on Bibbulman country and protects culture, plants and animals across Noongar lands from coast to river, hills to estuary. This trail network focuses on the Maidens Reserve, a special place known for its dune systems, panoramic lookouts, and connection to Nyoongar Boodja.

The name Kalgulup means “place of fire” or “place of burning camp”—reflecting the central role of fire in Noongar culture. It surrounds Quobba Keip Boya (a place of pretty rocks and water), within the lands of the Pinjarup, Wadandi, Kaneang and Wiilmen people. These lands and waters are shared with the community to learn about, respect, care for and enjoy—today and for generations to come.

The Maidens Reserve offers five short trails that pass through tuart woodlands, coastal heath and sandy ridgelines, with lookouts offering sweeping views across the Indian Ocean and Bunbury townsite.

A 670m assisted wheelchair-accessible path—designed in collaboration with the City of Bunbury Co-Design Access Panel—leads to the lower lookout, which sits 45m above sea level. The upper lookout climbs to 67m via a staircase of 153 steps, rewarding visitors with expansive coastal and bushland vistas.

Interpretive signage throughout the reserve shares stories of Noongar culture, bushland restoration and the local environment. Whether you're seeking a peaceful walk, a family outing, or a new perspective over Country, the trails at Maidens Reserve offer something for all trail users.
