Cape Naturaliste Walk Trails

Leeuwin-Naturaliste NP

Only a short drive from Dunsborough, these coastal trails offer unforgettable experiences. Lookout points along the way provide sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, with whales often visible between September and November – so don’t forget your binoculars! The Shelley Cove Loop includes a viewpoint where fur seals may be seen resting on rocky outcrops below, while the surrounding vegetation provides important habitat for a wide variety of native birds and reptiles.

This interconnected network of trails includes both easy and moderate walks, that wind through coastal shrubland, banksia woodland and wind-pruned tea trees. Majority of the trails are over sandy and rocky terrain but contain some sealed sections at various points. The Cape Naturaliste to Sugarloaf Rock walk is fully sealed and designed for assisted wheelchair users and prams.

Getting there:

Dunsborough is the closest town and is 250km south of Perth. From Dunsborough to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and the start of the trails is a further 14km drive north-west of Dunsborough at the end of Cape Naturaliste Road.

Access:

If you are starting your walk at the main trailhead, parking is available at the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse carpark. Alternatively, you can access Shelley Cove Loop from the Shelley Cove carpark, located near Bunker Bay. Bikes and pets are not permitted on these trails.

Safety and facilities:

Toilets and picnic tables are located at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and Shelley Cove. Water can be purchased from the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse gift shop. There are two accessible parking bays at the entrance and accessible toilets next to the carpark and within the main lighthouse grounds.
