One Mile Jetty, Carnarvon
About the Trail
One Mile Jetty is located in Carnarvon, 904 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. This three kilometre easy walk trail runs from the Tramway Bridge in the town centre, along the railway line to the Precinct and the One Mile Jetty. This enjoyable walk allows close observation of the flora and fauna of the region with the help of interpretive signage.
Walk or take the "Coffee Pot" train along the historical One Mile Jetty, built in 1897. View the Gascoyne Rivermouth, mangrove and marine life, migrating birds and jetty activity (renowned for its great fishing) with sunset a particularly attractive time to go.
The Tramway Bridge was constructed during the 1900's to transport goods between the port of Carnarvon and the town centre. During the main tourist season there is a rail link along the tramway from the town centre to the Heritage Precinct, providing a scenic 20 minute trip each way.
Additionally, visit the restored Lighthouse Keepers Cottage Museum, the Railway Museum (home of the fully restored Kimberley Steam train that operated from the Jetty to town in the 1950's), or enjoy a coffee or ice cream at the seasonal Guards van kiosk.
