A short drive from the centre of Esperance, nestled out of the wind is the 7 kilometre return Kepwari trail. Kepwari is the local Aboriginal word for ‘place of moving water’ and this interpretive trail is designed to be a learning experience with bird hides and seating along the way.

Panels and information displays help you discover why these wetlands are important, why they are under threat and how you can help protect them for future generations.

Two bird hides located along the trail provide an opportunity to quietly observe waterbirds in a tranquil environment.  Dispersed along the trail are facilities for you to sit back, relax and soak up the serenity of the natural scenery.

Access to the trail is via Windabout Way or Lakes Road, both are adjacent to Fisheries Road.

Trail starts at Lake Wheatfield carpark on Lake Road off Fisheries Road, Esperance which is 720km (7.5 hours) SE of Perth.

This is a reasonably nice local trail to do. Fairly protected from the coastal winds. Not recommended on a hot day, should be fine all other times. The walking is pretty easy with only a few small hills. Well marked trail. No facilities - no water, no loo.
