Denmark Wetlands Trail

The Denmark Wetlands Trail is a short 300m trail to the ‘Ornitarium’ bird hide that follows the edge of the paperback wetland. In late summer you can walk amongst the ancient paperbarks next to the picnic area.

About the Trail

This family friendly trail begins at the day use picnic area of the Denmark Wetlands Centre, an 8-hectare wetland rehabilitation site 2.5km east of Denmark, WA.

The wetlands provide an example of an integrated biodiversity and farm forestry planting, with a range of tree species including Karri, Ancient Paperbarks and River Banksia.

The wetland was once regarded as a degraded swamp however since 1994 rehabilitation work (by Greenskills Denmark) has included development of a bird-hide including a bird-species information box, a dieback cleaning station, paths and a boardwalk to provide and control access to the wetlands viewing-sites and Ornitarium.

Education centre facilities include interpretive signage, sheltered picnic tables, a composting toilet and a lookout.  Park at the picnic area of the centre which is 400m down Atkinson Road,
