The Gear Essentials Workshop is a hands-on outdoor experience designed to help beginner hikers feel confident, prepared and excited to start their hiking journey.
Delivered as part of The Hike Hub Project, this collaborative initiative between Off The Beaten Track WA and Paddy Pallin aims to remove the overwhelm around hiking gear and give people the practical knowledge they need to get outdoors safely and comfortably.
Taking place on Saturday 6 June 2026 from 9am to 2pm at Ball Creek Campsite in the Perth Hills, the workshop combines expert advice, real world demonstrations and a guided hiking experience in a relaxed and supportive environment. Participants will learn about essential hiking gear, footwear, backpack fitting and packing, clothing layers, trail safety, nutrition, hydration and hiking basics, while also having the opportunity to ask questions and try different gear setups.
The experience includes a guided 6km hike on the Bibbulmun Track, morning tea, live demonstrations and access to exclusive offers through Paddy Pallin. The workshop is perfect for people who are completely new to hiking, looking to build confidence, or wanting guidance before investing in outdoor gear. Registrations are essential due to limited places available.
Tickets are $75 per person and can be booked online via the Off The Beaten Track WA website. Early bookings are encouraged as demand is expected to be high.
