Djeran Detours: Easter Trails Worth the Trip (and the Tank of Fuel)
As the Noongar seaon of Djeran begins, the shift is unmistakable — cooler mornings, calmer conditions and that welcome break from the intensity of summer.
And just in time for the Easter long weekend and school holidays.
Plenty of West Aussies are weighing up where to go, how far to travel and whether the bank account can handle it. Add in recent weather disruption across parts of the state, particularly in the north, and it makes even more sense to keep things simple and close-to-home this April.
The good news? You do not have to go far to find a great trail.
Whether you are planning a family day out, a quick reset in the hills, a coastal wander or a ride with the kids, here are some Djeran-ready ideas to get you outdoors over the break.

A quick note on fuel
Let’s be realistic, fuel prices are shaping our Easter plans this year.
That does not mean staying home. It just means choosing smarter. Pick one area and do it properly. Look for places with more than one trail nearby. Pair a short walk with lunch, or a ride with a beach stop, instead of spending the day bouncing between destinations.
A well-planned local outing can still feel like a getaway!
Know before you go
If you are staying local this Easter, you will sidestep much of the uncertainty that can come with longer regional travel. For those heading further afield, it is worth checking DBCA Park Alerts and Emergency WA before you leave, particularly if you are travelling north or through the Gascoyne. Exmouth is still recovering from Cyclone Narelle, and Carnarvon remains an area where conditions should be checked closely before plans are locked in. The north will be calling again soon and, when conditions settle, those communities will need visitors more than ever. For this Easter though, a little extra planning will go a long way.
Make it your kind of Easter
Whether it is a family-friendly walk, a coastal wander, a morning in the hills or a South West stop on the way to somewhere else, Djeran is one of the best times of year to be out on the trail.
You do not need a huge road trip to make the long weekend count. Sometimes the best Easter escape is the one that leaves more room for the trail and maybe even a potential easter hunt (Please remember to Leave No Trace).
