Pindan Trail, Broome Bird Observatory
About the Trail
The Pindan Trail is a flat and easy 1.2km loop walk encompassing Pindan woodland and a lookout overlooking Roebuck Bay. Vegetation is rich and diverse, with such species as Broome Pindan Wattle and the helicopter tree.
The trail starts at the Broome Bird Observatory, a not-for-profit bird research centre. There are unpowered sites for camping, an excellent campers kitchen as well as some cabins. In the dry-season, volunteer bird researchers are only too willing to tell you about birds in the area. As well, there is comprehensive interpretive signage about birds and the ecology in the area.
At low tide, expect to see big numbers of shoreline bird species. Many species are seasonal migrants from the Northern Hemisphere. Roebuck Bay is a bird habitat of huge international significance.
